Flying in a flex wing microlight really is an amazing experience. Totally different to any other flying you may have done. Probably as close to being a bird as you can get, the feel of flying through the air gives the flex wing flight more of a thrill and the views are outstanding with no aircraft body work getting in the way. We are incredibly fortunate to be based at Atheys Moor Airfield where we can fly over so many fantastic scenic areas, officially designated as being of "Outstanding Natural Beauty" within a short space of time.
Things have come a long way from when some crazy guys back in the early 1970's came up with the idea of trying to power hang gliders with very basic engines. Since then technology and legislation has moved on and today's modern factory manufactured microlights powered by reliable engines, really do have an exceptionally good safety record within the aviation world. They are amazingly strong and robust, they have a greater strength to weight ratio than a Boeing 747. Flex wing microlights have now circumnavigated the globe and flown over the highest peaks of Everest.
In the extremely unlikely event of an engine malfunction, the flex-wing will simply glide back down to earth and land safely in a field/beach/small road.

Most people are able fly in a flex wing microlight. You must be aged 14 or over and weigh less than 110kg or 17.3 st. Disabled people are more than welcome and provided they are moderately mobile we can share the sky with you to.
Below are detailed our standard flying experiences, However these are just a sample of what is possible. If you live near to another airstrip we are able to come to your location to do the flight provided it is within Northumberland.

all of the below are suggested routes only. we can go wherever you want and can fly over newcastle and built up areas if you want to, providing we can do so within the time of the purchased flight.
The 30 minute experience (£90)
Pre flight briefing and suiting up, we have all the kit, you just need warm shoes, After embarking the aircraft , you will taxi to the take off location... full power... about 150 meters and airborne , leaping into the air for an amazing flying experience.
During your scenic tour of your choice around the surrounding area your knowledgeable instructor will enlighten you of interesting facts about buildings and towns we pass over.
Our most popular 30 min flight is take off at Atheys Moor, to go over Warkworth castle along the beach to Alnmouth and then over Alnwick castle and Gardens, returning to Atheys Moor via Brizlee Tower.
the 60 minute experience £135
WHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD CAN YOU FLY OVER 5 CASTLES IN AN HOUR ?
By far our most popular experience is the 60 minute flight.
Pre flight briefing and suiting up, we have all the kit, you just need warm shoes, After embarking the aircraft , you will taxi to the take off location... full power... about 150 meters and airborne , leaping into the air for an amazing flying experience. You'll take to the skies for a fantastic view of Northumberland.
During your scenic tour of your choice around the surrounding area your knowledgeable instructor will enlighten you of interesting facts about buildings and towns we pass over. History abounds from evidence of the first ever iron age and bronze age settlements on the north east coast to second world war and even more modern follies.
Our suggested route is after taking off from Atheys Moor and flying East towards the coast and Warkworth Castle, we then follow the magnificent coastline north to Bamburgh Castle passing Dunstanburgh Castle on the way, we then head inland over the wild moorland and return via Chillingham Castle over some magnificent country houses and estates to Alnwick Castle and Gardens, then returning to our home airfield at Atheys Moor
the 90 Minute flight £200
The 90 minute flight is an extension of the hour flight and takes us as far as Berwick upon Tweed. then inland over the border regions.
This flight gets you that little bit further away from habitation so the chances of seeing seals and dolphins is high. Also great views of Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle as we approach over the only official nudist beach in Northumberland at Ross Sands (chances of seeing nudists is low )
Fantastic views of Berwick Upon Tweed and the magnificent Royal Border Bridge that spans the river with 28 arches and then following the River Tweed inland towards the huge Cheviot Hills where we see many fine country houses , ruined castles and hill forts then returning via Chillingham Castle to Alnwick Castle and back to the airfield, a whistle stop tour of Northumberlands best spots. the Big Adventure £260
Why not make a day of it , there is always the Big Adventure! With approximately two and a half hours of flight time, you'll take off on a cross country flight to another airfield!
On arrival we will be indulging in a comfort/snack break before returning to Atheys Moor
The possibilities for this flight are quite wide, depending on prevailing conditions but rest assured this will definitely be one day to remember for the rest of your life.
During this flight we can cover most of Northumberland and if you fancy seeing a bit of Hadrians Wall on the west as well as the castles in the east, we will have time to do that.
If you want to have a go at flying the machine yourself, you can swap places with the pilot at the away landing spot and fly home.

Once we have received your booking and payment, we will contact you by email to confirm that the booking has been made. If you specifically want a voucher sent out to either yourself or the person you are buying the experience for please reply with the Name and Address of where you want us to send it. If you do not require a voucher you need do nothing further.
The person who is going to do the flight then just needs to call or text our contact number 2-3 days prior to the date they have in mind, telling us what day and time suits them and we will then allocate a definite booking slot for that time and date
These instructions will be repeated in your confirmation email. Instructions about booking the flight are included on the voucher.
All paid for flights have a validity period of 1 year from the date of purchase. Flights are transferable to other persons but once purchased the flights are not refundable unless there are extenuating circumstances. (THE WEIGHT LIMIT IS 100KG OR 15.75 ST. MINIMUM AGE IS 14)
